1955 Karagöz Turkish Shadow Puppetry Book Sabri Esat Siyavusgil Color Plates

Scarce 1955 English-language book on Karagöz, the traditional Turkish shadow-puppet theater, by Sabri Esat Siyavusgil. Published in Ankara by the Turkish Press, Broadcasting and Tourist Department, the book explores the history, characters, mysticism and satirical spirit of Karagöz and features numerous illustrations, including striking full-page color plates of traditional shadow-puppet figures. Cover shows age-related wear, creasing and edge damage; interior remains generally well preserved, with some binding separation visible at the rear. Please review photos carefully for condition. Rare pair of issues of Turkish Digest, the English-language cultural magazine published by the Turkish Information Office, Istanbul. Spring 1955 (Vol. 2, No. 1) features original fiction by celebrated Turkish author Sait Faik Abasiyanık and cover art by B.R. Eyuboğlu. Autumn 1957 features an article by Bülent Ecevit (future Prime Minister of Turkey) and a cover reproducing sculpture by Zühtü Müridoğlu. Both issues include articles on Turkish culture, politics, art, and East-West relations. Mid-century graphic design throughout. Condition: good vintage condition with expected age toning.
