Baum, L. Frank: #17 The Cowardly Lion of Oz HB/No DJ 1st/1st
Baum, L. Frank: #17 The Cowardly Lion of Oz HB/No DJ 1st/1st Publisher: Reilly & Lee, 1917 The copyright on the title page is 1918. This is a first edition which includes all of the plates. The spine has an expected (unique) Reilly | & Lee. And the last gathering is just 8 pages. The book is in G/VG condition. There are some spots and closed tears internally. However there are not significant missing pieces. The tear on the tile page crosses about 3/4 of the page. I tried to show it but its hard to see. There is a small “worm” hole in the top spine area. Its quite hard to see because its deep in the gutter (I almost missed it). There is a name and inscription in the “This book . . .” box. And, a 50 price in front. The book has 4 rounded corners and other than noted, there is no writing or marks in the book. This is not a remainder, book club or ex-library copy. The binding is mostly straight but a bit shaken. Please note: The picture(s) are of the actual item for sale. (Pictures are NOT stock photos.) If the book has a dust jacket: (1) The dust jacket is protected in a Brodart to ensure that it remains in the best possible condition. (2) The Brodarted dust jacket is not taped to the book. (3) When we take a picture of a book (or make a scan), it may cause a glare on the plastic of the Brodart. This is not a defect in the book or jacket; it is just a reflection off the Brodart. Shipping for this item is $4 for media rate (for U.S. addresses). If you want Priority Mail, send your address and well calculate it. Insurance optional for orders under $50. Note: If you buy more than one item, make sure you contact us, because we combine shipping and never change more than $5 for media rate. DEFINITIONS First thus refers to the first printing of a new edition of a book. TPB refers to a trade paperback edition. Trade paperbacks are oversized paperback editions. PBO (Paperback Original) means this is a first edition/first printing paperback, which is also the first time this book was published (the true first edition of this book). ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) means this was a limited edition paperback (usually paperback) copy of a soon to be released hard back book. BOOK GRADING GUIDE Because hobbies have different words for describing conditions, Id like to tell you how I grade the collectibles I sell. Books are graded with the ABA standard in mind. That means books range from G (good) to Fine. I dont use a VFN or any form of Mint to describe a book. A book that is NF (near fine) can also be thought of as almost new. A full list of typical conditions ranges from: G, VG, VG+, VG+/NF, NF, to FN

Dr. Seuss – Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now – First Edition Anomaly?
• 26457 Seuss, Dr. Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now! Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners 13 1972 Random House, New York 1st Edition (?). VG /VG. Text is clean. Glossy pictorial cover shows some wear, rubbing evident to bottom edges of front/rear covers, base of spine bumped. Previous owner name stamped on front free endpaper and front pastedown. Dust jacket shows some edgwear, has one closed tear to front panel along top edge. Dust jacket contains all first printing points (Younger/Hirsh) except for lack of price on dust jacket flap. Cliff Erickson of To & Again Books notes this anomaly is not documented in Younger/Hirsh and according to his research is more scarce than the DJ with the $2.50 price. Peter Glassman from Books of Wonder concludes, however that it is more likely a “Cat in the Hat Book Club” edition, however there are not the expected Book Club markings found on other titles. . Random House discontinued printing dust jackets for this title the year after its initial publication.
